Meet Pittsburgh PA Oral Surgeon Dr. Dattilo
Allegheny Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Dattilo was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended Fordham University and obtained his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1978. Following this he completed his five year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh in 1984. Dr. Dattilo served as the chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh from 1986 until 2004. While maintaining this position he also served as a clinical professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Since 2004 Dr. Dattilo has been serving as the Director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at Allegheny General Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Dattilo lectures extensively and is published in many of his special interests such as trauma, facial reconstructive surgery, dental implants, and the surgical treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome.
Dr. Dattilo serves on the Examination Committee of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) is the certifying board for the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the United States and is recognized and approved by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association. Members of the ABOMS Examination Committee perform many duties specific to the board certification process. In addition to acting as an Examiner and writing cases for the Oral Certifying Examination (OCE), they are also responsible for submitting items for the Qualifying Examination (QE), Recertification Examination (RE) and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery In-Service Training Examination (OMSITE).
Since 1991 Dr. Dattilo’s interests have expanded to third world nations as he has provided Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in such areas as West Africa, Peru and Nepal. This he does as a member of a volunteer surgical mission where he has provided surgical treatment to children and adults suffering from a wide variety of oral and facial deformities.
Additionally, Dr. Dattilo is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Dental Society of Anesthesia, and a fellow of the American Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons.
